The recording of the pre-forum zoom call is now ready. You can view it here: https://gcf.community/events/ethiopia2023/pre-forum-zoom-call/.
If you were not able to attend then we recommend you watch the recording. It will give a good oversight of a number of different areas that we will be focusing on in our time together in Ethiopia.
Visas can be purchased online via the Ethiopian Government website here: https://www.evisa.gov.et/. Please make sure you choose Tourist Visa. Some of you may need to purchase your visa when you arrive, but where possible we encourage you to get the visa online in advance if you can. It will save you a lot of time at the airport.
Unless you are an Ethiopian national the only countries that do not need a visa to travel to Ethiopia are Kenya and Djibouti. If in doubt, please check with your embassy / consulate.
If you are a day visitor (for example, if you live in Addis, or are staying with friends / colleagues, and not in the hotel) then the cost is $30 a day. This includes the use of facilities during the day, and lunch. If you want to have dinner at the hotel that is an extra $15 taking the day total to $45 per day.
You can either pay for that on the payment form on the website. Or you can bring cash and pay on arrival. If you bring cash please ensure that you see James so he can get you ticked on the list.
The dress code for our meetings is casual. For women in Ethiopia, especially in the city, it is common to see them in trousers and dresses. Shorts are not that common in the church environment. If we avoid shorts that will be good.
The average for November is highs of 23c (73f) and lows of 7c (45f). It’s likely to be dry, but rain is of course possible.
We’ve had a few people ask about whether there are any required vaccinations for Ethiopia, specifically around Yellow Fever.
Ethiopia requires proof of yellow fever vaccination if you are arriving from a region where the virus is present. So it entirely depends on where you are travelling from and where you have passed through.
Additionally you may find that you need certain vaccinations on arrival back to your own country after having visited certain countries.
The variables are quite significant so we strongly recommend that you get personal vaccine advice from a health center local to you who should be able to give you advice specific to your circumstances.
