Getting AI Apps Setup
Introduction
We would like to help teach you how to use AI. Many of the apps we are sharing are free to use. It is important that you learn how to access and set up the AI Apps you would like to use so that the training is helpful and practical.
Setting up a Chatbot
What is a Chatbot?
Chatbots are designed to mimic human conversation. The software is programmed to support a two-way conversation. This may be to ask / answer questions, offer solutions and solve problems. Chatbots exist in text and voice models.
What can Chatbots do?
Chatbots can provide simple customer solutions on a website and then refer to a human agent when they reach the limit of their programming. But chatbots can provide far more complex responses, like the Chatbots we will look at in our tutorials and on Zoom. We can use them as a writing partner or text editor, a research partner, a brainstorming team... There are so many varied applications!
Setting up ChatGPT
- Go to https://chatgpt.com/ and go through the Sign-Up or Login process. Download the app if you are planning on working offline.
- Once you are signed in (you can use your Google account, Microsoft etc), you will see the prompt bar – it looks like a search bar – that is where you can type or paste your prompts.
- On the left side of the page, you will see a title for your first prompt. When you want to start a new prompt thread, click the Pencil on Paper icon to start a new chat topic.
- ChatGPT will save your chat threads, give them a helpful and logical title, so you can easily identify them for use again later.
- If you use ChatGPT without signing in, none of your work will be saved for later use.
Setting up Google Gemini
Google Gemini is also free. Go to https://gemini.google.com/ and login.
Getting Started in Generative Art
AI generative art is an image created by a computer program using artificial intelligence.
The computer is trained with a huge amount of data of existing art, or it can create new art from scratch. AI generative art can be used to create a variety of different types of art, including paintings, drawings, graphic design, logos, sculptures and more.
Setting up Microsoft Designer
There are more advanced AI Art sites listed in the back. We’ve used Microsoft Designer as it is a simple place to start (or try Adobe Firefly: https://firefly.adobe.com/):
- Go to Microsoft Designer https://designer.microsoft.com/
- Sign in with your Microsoft account.
- Look for “Image Creator”.
- Type a prompt or question into the text box.
- Click the "Generate" button.
- Designer will generate an image based on your prompt.
You can then save the image and use it in your resources.
Other AI apps
Later in the Manual we will discuss AI Video, Music and Animation and how to access them.
You can also click here for a growing list of AI Tools and how to find them. You can also add your suggestions there.
